And that's a whole new approach to how Android looks and works in a large-screen environment.įor tablets and also foldable phones, Android 13 and its 12L-provided framework will be downright transformative. It was essentially a foundation-creating prestep that established the groundwork for what Android 13 is about to accomplish. The update had a handful of teensy tweaks and adjustments to the experience on Google Pixel devices - the primary products that received it - but we're talkin' the sort of super-subtle stuff no normal person would ever notice or give an ounce of attention to digesting.Īgain, though, Android 12L was significant - supremely so. Like Android 13, Android 12L didn't look like much to anyone with an average Android phone. The update, which reached completion and started rolling out to a handful of devices this past March, was basically a 0.1-style update - so Android 12.1 or maybe even Android 13.-01, if you want to get even more accurate (and maybe just a wee bit sassy). 1: The significant sideįirst things first, a bit of important context: This year's Android release cycle was unusual even before Android 13 came into the picture.īack in October of last year, a matter of weeks after Android 12's arrival, Google announced the development of a new "feature drop" update it was calling Android 12L. But if you take a few minutes to understand what's happening now, you'll be far more prepared for what's coming - and far less likely to find yourself scratching that suspiciously soft noggin of yours in confusion. It's a tale of two operating systems in one and a type of dual identity we've never quite experienced on Android. And consequently, when Android 13 actually shows up in your sweaty person-paws, your first reaction will probably be something along the lines of: "Wait - this is it?!" Far from it, in fact: This year's Android update may be one of Google's most pivotal, platform-shifting releases and the rare arrival that genuinely changes the course of where the platform is headed from a bigger-picture perspective.īut somewhat paradoxically, it's looking more and more like that the brunt of that impact will be almost entirely invisible to most of us mere phone-toting mortals. That's not to say Android 13 isn't significant.

I’m really wondering what Apple tries to do here. Selling something like Mainstage 2, which probably is worth at least 200 € for 24€ is clearly dumping I mean it’s a 90% discount! The current price of a softsynth from a mainstream developer is about 150 €, you can get good plugins from indie developers for 50 €, but that’s it! I could have had Live alone (without all the extra content and instruments) for 250. I got Ableton Suite, with Max for Live for about 500 euro. In Europe Photoshop (basic version) costs 1500 euro. I mean… music software already is pretty affordable.Ĭompare it with the above mentioned Adobe Creative Suite. If we want companies to produce a high standard in software we need to live with the idea that that software will cost money. They’re clearly going for a dumping price strategy here, and I can’t think this might be doing much good to the market.ĭeveloping software costs money, time and resources. On the other hand, apple is perhaps not doing us such a big favour on the long run. I might even buy it, though I really have no need for it. Hell you could even just buy it to see if it’s worth it. Well there’s certainly not much to loose on a 30$ download. I wish Apple had bought Adobe back in the day or had a product that competes with Photoshop because 1) Photoshop would be way cheaper and 2) it wouldn’t be like MS Office with new versions every two years with pointless UI tweaks. The problem is there isn’t always that much to innovate so they just end up switching around the interface which just wastes everyone’s time relearning it. Sounds good in theory right, they always have to be innovating. Adobe CS is basically they’re only income stream so if they want to meet quarterly earnings they have to have a new version in the works constantly. They can let the Logic team do their own thing for as long as it takes to produce something awesome. Apple has tons of money coming in from all over the place. They don’t need to rush things out just to turn a profit for the year. How can take something seriously that seems to come out with new versions constantly making you waste time upgrading and testing and relearning? This is why I’d rather use a DAW by a company who has other revenue streams besides music software. I think people are just so stuck on the upgrade treadmill that if their DAW doesn’t come out with an update every 16 months they assume it must be discontinued! Too me the slow updates are what signifies a “pro” app. A huge library of more than 1700 sampler instruments.Add backing tracks using more than 15,000 royalty-free Apple Loops.80 effects including reverbs, delays, EQs, dynamics, amps, stompboxes, and more.Create and layer your own loop recordings with the Loopback plug-in.Trigger Apple Loops and stereo or multitrack backing tracks using the Playback plug-in.Use 40 built-in instruments including synths, vintage keyboards, a drum machine, sampler, and more.Design rich keyboard patches using splits and layers. Combine instruments and live audio, such as keyboard and vocals, in a single patch.Perform live with 120 instrument and effect plug-ins or work with your Audio Units plug-ins.If you’re a MainStage user, let us know how you use it – and what you think of the new pricing! The video above takes a look at how Nine Inch Nails has used MainStage as part of its live performance reg. MainStage basically turns a Mac into a live performance rig, with broad hardware control and a massive number of plugins and sounds.

When that time comes, you can just cancel Sling TV (We'll show you how in a moment) and you and your live TV streaming service will part ways at the end of the current billing period. The process repeats unless and until you decide that you want out of the deal. When you sign up for Sling TV, you'll be billed at the beginning of each month and will enjoy live TV all month long. Does it need any more advantages? Well, in any event, it has got one: On top of everything else, Sling TV doesn't trap you into a long-term contract. Sling TV is more convenient than cable or satellite, and it's cheaper, too. However, Sling TV does offer a discounted rate for the first month to new customers. The appearance and duration of its free trial varies, though. Usually, a button that says “Try Us Today” on the website is an indication of a free trial. Getting a Sling TV free trialĭoes Sling TV offer a free trial? It depends. That's why we keep track of the offers that you can use to save big on Sling TV and other streaming services and devices. Sling TV is a pretty cost-effective thing, but you can save even more money if you're savvy when you sign up for Sling TV and pounce on one of the service's deals and promotions. In-browser app (Mac, Windows, and more).Android TV (including the Nvidia Shield).Below, you'll find a list of the devices and platforms that Sling TV plays nice with. There's a very good chance that you can watch Sling TV using your current favorite streaming device, whether that be a Roku, Chromecast, iPhone, or other device. As a result, Sling TV has really robust platform support. Sling TV has been around since 2015, which has given it plenty of time to build out great apps for all of the most popular streaming platforms and devices. What devices can I use to watch Sling TV? You can add SHOWTIME, a whole bundle of sports channels, or some or all of the above (and much more) – it's entirely up to you. The Extras can cost anywhere from $5 per month to $21 per month or more. Once you have either or both base bundles, you can tack on Extras (add-on packages). If you sign up for both, you'll get all of the base-package channels for a discounted rate of $60 per month. Sling TV's most basic bundles – Sling Orange and Sling Blue – cost $40-$45 per month. But how affordable is it? How much does Sling TV cost? But perhaps the most important reason that people choose Sling TV over cable or satellite is that Sling TV offers a more affordable live TV experience. For one, skinny bundles are more convenient than cable: You can watch them on all sorts of different devices and time-shift TV with Sling TV's cloud DVR (an Extra, or add-on, feature), so it's easy to watch live TV on your time and wherever you are. Sling TV has succeeded for a few reasons. Below, we'll cover everything from what channels are on Sling TV to how to cancel Sling TV. It's fair to wonder if Sling TV is the right skinny bundle for you, so let's talk a little about how Sling TV works. It was the first major service of its type when it debuted, but now Sling TV has lots of competition. What is Sling TV? It's a live TV streaming service, or skinny bundle. Then, in 2015, Sling TV changed everything. For years, cord-cutters had to make a choice: Could they live without live TV? There were plenty of on-demand alternatives in the late 2000s and early 2010s, but cable and satellite still had a stranglehold on live TV, including live sports. Party Block Rocker has a built-in SLA battery (Sealed Lead Acid) with 4Ah capacity. The FM reception is excellent, while the AM reception is not that impressive. You’re not going to use them that much but it’s good to know that they are present. Built-in AM and FM tuners are a great addition to the package. NFC pairing is supported (NFC tag is on the top) but the multipoint pairing isn’t. Bluetooth connection works well and it’s pretty reliable. When it comes to playback options, you have Bluetooth connectivity, old-school AUX input, and AM/FM radio. The panel also houses mic input and a standard 3.5mm AUX input. Also, there are two volume dials – mic volume and master volume. There’s a separate button for each source, for playback control, and for AM/FM radio presets. Right above the grille, there’s a nice-looking control panel with a bunch of buttons and a backlit display in the middle. However, the speaker is not IPX certified. The drivers are protected with a strong metal grille. The overall build quality is pretty good. There are some rubbery reinforcements, too. Handle and wheels make transportation much easier. There’s a nice telescoping handle on the back and tiny rubberized wheels on the bottom. On the left and right sides, you have two carrying handles. The dimensions are 14.6in x 9.8in x 17.4in and the weight is 20.7lb. The speaker is large but still fairly portable. The design is simple and boxy, but still quite attractive. The speaker comes with all the necessary equipment including power/charging cable, AUX cable, wired microphone, and all the documentation. The speaker is priced slightly over $150. You should be looking for a rugged speaker, with some reinforcements. You must not forget about the build quality and durability, especially if you want to use it outdoors. So, look for a large and long-lasting battery. Nobody wants a speaker that can’t rock the whole night. One of the most important features is the battery life. If you want a speaker that can produce some serious bass, look for large woofers (8in, 10in, 12in).Īlso, you should check the Bluetooth specs – Bluetooth version, range, connection reliability, NFC pairing, multipoint pairing, supported codecs, etc. Check the woofers’ and tweeter’s size and type. You should also pay attention to some specs. You can probably get something decent for less than $100, but if you want it to be really good, you should spend more ($200+). So, what are the things to consider?Īs always, the first thing to consider is the price/budget. And, since it’s big, you probably want to use it for parties. Why wheels? Well, because carrying a huge speaker around is quite exhausting – wheeling it, like a suitcase, doesn’t require that much effort and it’s much more convenient. And wheels, don’t forget about the wheels. Maybe even a Bluetooth speaker with lights. What’s the point of a tailgate party or just any outdoor party if you don’t have some large and powerful speaker(s) to set the mood? Preferably, some portable Bluetooth speaker. Ignoring the rest, what iPhone do you have that gets 10 days on standby? I'd feel lucky to get maybe 2 days on standby if I literally didn't even touch the phone, and that would be with a brand new iPhone charged to 100%The iPhone 4 is rated for 300 hours of standby, that's 12.5 days. completely ignoring the obvious, and essentially advising their clients to go from 10 days standby on their iPhone, to a mere 1 day. OnSIP is doing a disservice to the mobile SIP community through misleading and one-sided blog entries like the one bashing APNS. If UDP is so cool and dandy, and noone needs TCP anyways, it's not like they'll suddenly have all those ATA and hardware phones coming in with TCP, is it? An APNS-style solution is superior to SIP/TCP, BTW, and even guys from Sipdroid would agree (they do mention they'd like to piggyback on another TCP connection, instead of having their own), yet the all-knowing OnSIP purposefully discredits APNS due to their own agenda regarding their own costs (and potentially a hidden interest in CounterPath). I purchased Bria for iPhone, and was very disappointed by a one-day battery life Groundwire by Acrobits is the only SIP app I can recommend on iOS, since it's the only one (last I checked) that supports APNS and has zero effects on battery life (thanks to APNS).īesides, your response sounds like TCP is so expensive to support that no provider could possibly provide SIP/TCP for free yet how come and have no problem doing exactly just so? CallCentric provides no estimates, whilst OnSIP purposefully provides inaccurate and unattainable estimates (heard of the recent Kia's "MPG Gate"?), in order to generate sales for the wrong products, namely, SIP/UDP accounts and also SIP software like Bria by CounterPath with no generic APNS support (CounterPath, supposedly, do have APNS available for sale to individual vendors that want a branded softphone, yet somehow OnSIP is too cheap to purchase that one, either). This is almost like asking which car manufacturers have Wifi internet available in the car and, if possible, for free.I think it's more like asking for MPG estimates and for such estimates to be accurate. If you provide a link to another thread/website/etc, please provide a short and succinct summary.Īlso, it is my understanding that when selecting SIP/TCP in a softphone, TCP is only used for SIP registrations, and the actual voice traffic is always carried over UDP is that correct, or would it actually end up being proxied over TCP? (I certainly don't want my voice traffic carried over TCP.) CallWithUs: multiple concurrent registrations per each SIP account multiple SIP accounts per web-account, but no aliases. OnSIP: multiple concurrent registrations per each SIP account, multiple free SIP accounts (with aliases) per web-account.CallCentric: only one (most recent) registration per SIP account, only one SIP account per web-account.Īlso, whilst at it, it'll be useful to know which providers let you use the same SIP username/password to register more than one device to receive calls at the same time, and, perhaps, whether they let you create several SIP accounts within one web account.echnique A good read, also look up the research article by Nokia that they reference, "TCP Wake-Up: Reducing Keep-Alive Traffic in Mobile IPv4 and IPsec NAT Traversal", » /files.They also do have a clue on why would people need it. Just as their attempts to lure in Google Voice users to port their numbers over to OnSIP, without ever mentioning that they'll loose SMS support. Of course, as with any vendor, they blame the other parties for their lack of "cooperation" and too-big-and-too-old-to-change attitude, completely ignoring the obvious, and essentially advising their clients to go from 10 days standby on their iPhone, to a mere 1 day, just for the sake of saving OnSIP on their security, software and server costs. They also further promote for people shooting themselves in the foot here: » They clearly show to have no clue about why would anyone need SIP/TCP at » No TCP support, no mention of SIP/TCP on the website, completely escapes their FAQ! Which providers of SIP accounts support TCP and which don't? Not everyone has an analogue phone connected to an ATA. But Sector Y has my favorite boss fight, where a snide monkey exclaims, “cocky little freaks!” every time you take his health down a section. Both routes are great hitting all of the warp gates successfully is always a thrill as your ship increases in speed each gate you go through, increasing the difficulty. Katina was also a lot of fun to get to, because you could either take the hard route from the first level, or take the easy route and attempt to hit all the warp gates in the Meteo asteroid field to access the secret level. “Accomplished” meant you were headed down the harder path, while “complete” meant you either came up short or just did the bare minimum. StarFox 64 had branching paths based on if you did certain objectives, some more obvious than others. Destroying it in time (you have a full minute) results in the coveted “Mission Accomplished” screen, but failing to do so and not crashing will let you finish the level as “Mission Complete.” Destroying all the hatches triggers the final stand for the massive brown “frisbee of death,” and it positions itself over Katina’s “Parliamentary Pyramid*” to trigger its primary weapon. When the hatches open, besides releasing enemy gunships, they also act as a weak spot for the huge ship. From then on, it seems like you’re outnumbered at least 3 to 1. Depending on your path through Starfox 64 (more on that later), he can even show up in a later level to help you out.Īfter some time, the mothership appears, bolstering the enemy’s ranks. Shooting down a friendly ship causes Bill to shout, “Fox, that was one of ours!” or, “Try shooting the bad guys, Fox!” In spite of these quips, Bill is still the best wingman in the game. As you dive into the fray, you get to shoot down swarms of enemy ships while Bill and your teammates react to your dogfighting skills, or lack thereof. The number of spacecraft onscreen is impressive for 1997. If it’s starting to sound like a blatant ripoff of the 1996 film Independence Day, you are close. Katina was different in that you were helping your old friend Bill ( cough Pullman cough) fight off swarms of alien ships while their mothership positioned itself over the only building on the map, an important looking pyramid of sorts. All-range mode changes those rules, and drops you inside a box area where you can fly in circles to your heart’s content, often fighting bosses or difficult enemies. Usually your ship, sub, or tank moves straight forward, a shooter on rails of sorts. One of the early levels in Nintendo’s tour-de-force StarFox 64 is the planet of Katina, set in all-range mode. If I’m able, I’ll try to tie it up in a nice bow with some application or deep thoughts (lower your expectations) at the end. The shrine was accessible through a series of arches, thus inspiring the gameplay. The game concept was inspired by a shrine to a fox god who could fly, and which Shigeru Miyamoto visited regularly. One thing you can’t say about Native Access is that it’s difficult to use.
